Hyundai Kona Electric – launched in India
The Trend of launching EVs has just started whose purpose is to address the extinction of fossil fuels and mitigate the problem of pollution by automobiles. Many EVs were supposed to get launched in the year 2019 or by the start of 2020 but very few kept their word and the word few include Hyundai.
Finally an EV from Hyundai, Hyundai Kona Electric has been launched in India. The Kona electric has been launched at an aggressive ex-showroom price of Rs.23.71 lakhs to Rs.23.9 lakhs. The price of Kona electric is very high, however it is less when compared to the price of it’s rival MG eZS.
Appearance and Looks of Hyundai Kona electric
Hyundai Kona defies with the common expectation that EVs are supposed to look bizarre, unlike the conventional cars. The EVs were expected to have looks from the sci-fi movies but yet Hyundai Kona just looks like a normal hatchback but with the exception of no front grille.
Hyundai Kona electric features an elegant body which at first, looks like curvy i20 but it’s not the case, the overall stance of the Kona electric looks similar to that S-cross.
At the front, there is no grille for the air to enter under the hood but instead, there is a cover with engraved-pattern which seems continuous with the pattern present just above the front number plate. The cover can be opened partially for charging purposes as the charging port is kept at the front side. The Hyundai Kona electric does not come with large bulky headlights but with a thin strip-like LED headlights. Compensating the size of the headlamps is the LED fog-lamps which can be seen right below the headlamps. All other aspects of looks are common and can be seen resembling with other Hyundai cars.
Motor specifications
Moving the car is the Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) of 136 PS which draws energy from the 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion polymer battery. The motor can produce a maximum torque of 40.27 kgm. The battery on a single complete charge can provide a range of 452 km and roughly takes around 6hours to get fully charged using an AC charging source. The battery can be charged from 0% to 80% in 57 min using a high-voltage DC charger. The car can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.7 seconds.
For the braking purpose, the EV has disc brakes at both front and rear wheels with tyre size of 215/55 R17 alloy wheel.
