MG Hector Vs Kia Seltos

The arena of mid-sized SUVs in India got two new warriors in the year 2019 providing perplexing buying options to mid-size SUV buyers. The MG Hector and Kia Seltos are truly worthy rivals of the beloved king of mid-size SUV, Hyundai Creta. But selecting out of MG Hector and Kia Seltos is far more difficult than choosing one out of the three as both offer similar kinds of features and even the price range of both SUVs overlap.

The selection from either is all dependent on the mindset and features preferred by the buyer. Looks

Looks-wise both the SUVs are tremendous but it’s dependent on the viewer’s perception and likings.MG Hector is definitely larger than Kia Seltos in terms of length, width and height and overall the MG Hector is at the upper hand when it shines and sparkles with the parts of grille, bumper and window lines. The stance of the MG Hector is slightly messed by the overhanging rear end and small-sized alloy wheels which don’t suit the SUVs.

On the other hand, Kia Seltos despite having smaller dimensions it maintains the balance and looks like a robust SUV and like MG Hector it is too having magnificent LED headlights. The front Grille comes with a beautiful strip of LEDs on the top and when seen with keenness the knurled finish adds to the beauty. Kia Seltos also comes with an option of the contrasting roof. Definitely, compromising with Tyre size in lieu of overall jumbo size will be a wise move as larger wheels can be added from outside, post-purchase.

Performance

The MG Hector undoubtedly produces more power using a 2.0 liter Diesel engine in comparison to Kia Seltos 1.5 Liter Diesel engine. Hector produces 170 Hp and 350 Nm of torque while Kia Seltos lags behind at 115 Hp and 250 Nm of torque. However, the power difference is not much significant when it comes to driving, the culprit behind this is the weight, MG Hector weighs around 1700 Kg while Seltos weighs around 1300 Kg, So don’t expect much difference in acceleration.

Seltos engine runs smoother than MG Hector's and it feels more responsive. The power build-up in Kia Seltos majorly starts after 2000 pm and it can out-rev 5000 rpm with ease. At some point in the drive, the gear shift and clutching may not remain quiet but the overall performance of Hector is remarkable just like Seltos. The MG Hector comes with a light steering wheel which aids in easy driving in cities but hector still needs rework at suspensions.

Features

Both SUVs are feature-loaded and MG Hector may seem to offer a bit more features like the panoramic sunroof, power tail-gate, dynamic turn indicators, more boot space and of course, the portrait 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Kia Seltos, on the other hand, offers a landscape touch screen infotainment system and a pop-up transparent display which assists the driver during the drive. The Kia Seltos also offers a smart air purifier system which these days is a must thing for cars in metro-cities. The features of Kia Seltos are meant to ease off the driving which is evident by the integration of 360-degree camera with the digital instrument cluster that lies in front of the driver. Moreover, the quality of elements at interiors like leather, wrapping material for steering, etc seems better than the Hector’s. So interior quality, comfort and ease of use are some aspects where Kia surpasses Hector.
