Microsoft Surface Duo and Surface Neo

Microsoft, at its event, unveiled some products like Surface Laptop 3, Surface Pro 7 and Surface Pro –X, and along with these it also disclosed latest surprises called Surface Duo and Surface Neo which are in all terms a smartphone but the CPO (Chief Product Officer) forbids to call these devices phones and instead emphasizes on calling it Surface.

Both devices come with dual screen and the smaller one runs on worldwide accepted Android OS. Both devices are foldable but not with foldable screens and have all the functions like that of a smartphone which starts from the basic functionality of making a phone call.

Surface Duo

The Surface Duo is the much-anticipated Surface phone which nothing but the miniature version of the Surface Neo that runs on Android OS instead of Windows 10. The Surface Duo has got two screens attached by a hinge which allows it to fold and unfold like a notebook. When unfolded the Surface Duo flaunts two 5.6” screens separated by the middle hinge. The device can run and show multiple apps at the same time on both screens. The major flaw for some could be thick bezels at the top and bottom of two screens which lowers down the aesthetics and the device looks like a concept of past. The device can act as a laptop when turned landscape, the lower screen can perform like a keyboard and the above screen will do the work of display. The showcased images of the device showed no sign of camera at the back; however, the commercial version of the device is expected to come with some other additional features as well as cameras.

Surface Neo

Surface Duo resembled the size of the phone in folded condition and in the same way Surface, Neo looks like its augmented version which falls between laptops and phones – tablets. The Surface Neo too depicted dual screens like Surface Duo but that like the size of a tablet. The size of both the screen is 9” and uses a 360-degree hinge for bonding. The Neo runs on Intel’s Lakefield processor and will come with a pen that gets magnetically held to the back of the device. At the OS front, the Neo will run on Windows 10 X. The Surface Neo will also support external keyboard which can be placed magnetically over one of the displays which will suit those who love hard keys instead of flat touch panels.

More information on these devices will be known prior to the commercial launch held somewhere in late 2020. Until then curiosity should be mitigated by rumors, anticipations, and posts or leaks from few insiders.
