For more than 150 years, the Department of Posts (DoP) has been the backbone of the country’s communication and has played a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development. Organization Overview

The Department of Posts comes under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The Postal Service Board, the apex management body of the Department, comprises the Chairman and six Members. The six members of the Board hold portfolios of Personnel, Operations, Technology, Postal Life Insurance, Human Resources Development, Planning respectively. The Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor to the Department is a permanent invitee to the Board. The Board is assisted by a senior staff officer of the Directorate as Secretary to the Board. Deputy Directors General, Directors and Assistant Directors General provide the necessary functional support for the Board at the Headquarters.

India has the largest Postal Network in? the world with over 1, 54,882 Post Offices (as on 31.03.2014) of which 1, 39,182 (89.86%) are in the rural areas. At the time of independence, there were 23,344 Post Offices, which were primarily in urban areas. Thus, the network has registered a seven-fold growth since Independence, with the focus of this expansion primarily in rural areas. On an average, a Post Office serves an area of 21.22 Sq. 1. How and who can register in Out Sourcing Agent (OSA) / Franchisee category?

For registering yourself in OSA / Franchisee category on IndiaPost Site,you should be registered as an agent or Franchisee with IndiaPost. Additionally follow the steps mentioned below to create your account on India Post site:
- Click on 'Register' Link on the homepage of IndiaPost Site
- Click '' OSA / Franchise"category. Registration page will open for you.
- Provide your valid Agent ID and Email ID to link your account.
- Click Submit and provide your personal details and a hint question and answer that will be used to reset your password in case you forget your password later.
- Select subscription option if you want to avail facilities like NewsLetter and SMS alerts.
- Submit the details to complete the registration process.
- A confirmation email with activation Link will be sent on your registered email ID for Account Activation.
- You need to click activation link before 48 hours to activate account.
- After activation you can logon to the IndiaPost Site with your User ID and One Time Password (OTP)
