THE V-GUARD STORY
The origin dates back to 1977, when Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly with a burning passion to make a difference set out to build a robust brand in the Indian electric and electronic goods panorama. With a small manufacturing unit for voltage stabilizers, a vision and a strong make-do belief, apart from a capital of Rs. 100,000 borrowed from his father and two workers to assist him, he set sail on his dream. V-Guard grew rapidly to become a name synonymous with voltage stabilizers across South India. The company soon extended their range of products to Voltage Stabilizer, Digital UPS, Inverter and Inverter Batteries, Electric Water Heaters, Solar Water Heaters, Domestic Pumps, Agricultural Pumps, Industrial Motors, Domestic Switch Gears, Distribution Boards, Wiring Cables, Industrial Cables, Induction Cooktops, Mixer Grinders & Fans.
Very soon the brand expanded its wings and is now available across the length and breadth of the country with a wide range of products.
The reputation has been built on sheer passion and a continuous quest to understand its consumer better. With stringent quality control measures, reliable products, talented people and a responsible approach to business, V-Guard continues to steadily capture the hearts of people across the country.

Brand Philosophy
It’s no secret that the world around them is weaved on technology. It feeds on innovation and thrives on creativity. Many of the inventions, gadgets and appliances that changed human life dramatically in the 21st century are now beginning to look like misfits in a digitised 22nd century. The ease in their lives is a result of products that not just follow orders, but understand what consumers want, intuitively. This evolved understanding helps them play a more fulfilling role in the lives of consumers.
In less than four decades V-Guard has earned itself a reputation for solidity. For designing and manufacturing products that are built to last. For them being rooted in solidity is only the beginning, something they can be proud of but a glory they cannot bask in. Because there is so much more to achieve in a world in which the meaning of a better quality of life is being redefined every day, fuelling greater expectations from the tools that enable a better quality of life.
At V-Guard they are not just thinking up the next innovation. They are constantly seeking to understand human life and its relationship with the tools and appliances that he uses. And then to evolve a seamless experience with thoughtfully engineered products in their quest to enriching consumer lives.
Founder's Profile
Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly was born in 1950 in Thrissur District, Kerala into a family which was traditionally engaged in agriculture. He holds a Master’s Degree in Physics and began his career as a Supervisor in an electronics company. A multifaceted individual, Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly has been spearheading the V-Guard Group from its inception.
At the age of 27, the industrialist in him took shape with a borrowed capital of Rs. 100,000 from his father to set up a small manufacturing facility for stabilizers. He had two workers to assist. Sensing the need for a reliable and quality product with a good after sales backup, he set about manufacturing the V-Guard brand of stabilizers. Quality and reliability was the key focus and armed with an effective marketing strategy. Today V-Guard is a listed company with BSE and NSE having various electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical products which apart from others include electric and solar water heaters, cables and wires, Domestic and Agricultural Pumps, Inverters, Fans, Induction Cooktop, Mixer Grinder and so forth and a turnover racing past Rs. 1700 crores.
Having set the company on wheels he toyed with the idea of diversification and a completely new course- a water theme park. Delivering on the quality of the rides, meeting international safety standards were all a daunting task but he decided to take it on with a firm self-belief. In the year 2000, he started an amusement park in the name ‘Veega Land’, (now Wonderla – Cochin) which has become one of the most attractive destinations in Kerala. The success story of ‘Veega Land’ made him to venture another amusement park, ‘Wonderla’, in Bangalore, which is the biggest amusement park in India. The success of the parks has resulted in two more new parks getting formalized near Chennai and Hyderabad.
He is also a humanitarian par excellence. Ailing patients battling with kidney disease, the agony they go through, and the difficulty in finding a donor set Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly thinking on a different path, many would have never ventured upon. He decided to donate one of his kidney’s to a poor and needy truck driver whom he had never met before. Along with a charitable institution based in Kerala, The Kidney Federation of India, formed a kidney chain – the first of its kind in India, wherein Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly started this chain by donating one of his kidneys to the needy truck driver and one close relative of the recipient will donate his/her kidney and the next recipient’s relative would donate further thereby carrying forward this unique kidney chain.
Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly used to jot down inspirational thoughts over the years. This was then authored into a book called Practical Wisdom-1, a practical management guide that would come in handy to budding entrepreneurs, managers and management students alike. Due to popular demand it was also translated into Malayalam. The second edition Practical Wisdom-2 was also launched recently. He has also compiled a collection of his childhood memories in a book called “Ormakillivathil”. The experience of donating a kidney is also taking shape in the form of another book, “The Gift.”
Mr. Kochouseph Chittilappilly is the recipient of numerous awards, which were bestowed on him for his exemplary performance in business and philanthropical work. Among others was the Samman Pathra Award for top income tax payer from Honourable Union Minister of State for Finance.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Women Empowerment
Recognizing the pivotal role women play in the development and progress of society, they at V-Guard have identified women's empowerment as a focus area. The Women's program in CSR aims to enable women to manage their monetary, physical and intellectual needs, by giving them a mutually beneficial income generating option to women. For procurement of stabilizers, V-Guard is working closely with women who have grouped themselves to form SHG's (Self Help Groups). The important criterion being, to provide a stable income for their households and in turn emancipation from poverty. The said efforts have met with resounding success over the decades.
Health Care Programmes
Healthcare has been India's biggest and the most necessary sector of social services. To help extend the quality of the same, V-Guard organized several blood donation camps at Kashipur, Bhubaneswar, Cochin and other spots of the country. To support the need of healthcare to the specially able, wheel chair and palliative care medical equipment were donated to the Primary Health care center of Parakkadavu Grama Panchayath near Angamaly and pain and palliative care unit Kannadi in Palakkad along with ambulances.
Additionally, Dialysis is a fairly common but major procedure in medicine, and was made accessible by V-Guard through financial support to kidney patients and organized free dialysis camps in collaboration with General hospital in Ernakulam for 120 patients and CHAI Hyderabad for 200 patients.
Other health care intiatives include supplying medical provisions. Medical supplies are expensive for the underprivileged and to help tackle this threat, V-Guard's Bhubaneswar branch distributed 200 units of First Aid Boxes to Government Primary Schools, in the district of Khurdha, on the occasion of Children's Day (14th November 2014).
